SOFTWARE ERROR NOTHING ELSE. Here is the text of the message, as it has been extracted.. I dont know if anyone listened to the city council meeting of 06-02 but you should. The city of LB-RDA Department was given a NSP grant for $2.4 million to help citizens in LB buy a home. For instance if you qualify for a $80,000 house, you can now buy a $100,000 with $20,000 in grant money. So you can buy a bigger house. Great idea! Well, RDA decided to give away $1 million to Habitat for Humanity (Which is a great cause, so hold up) so we had $1.4 left to help out citizens. RDA decided to outright buy 8 homes in Los Banos for cash which used the money. Then everyone had to fight over 8 homes. Of those 8 homes the city of LB did NOT use one local realtor. All realtors were out of town realtors to represent the city and one did NOT have a business license with the city of LB while they represented the city on the transaction. So the city puts these houses on the market and sells them and gets cash.....what are they going to do with the money? Now it is not grant money? One of the houses they bought had a mold issue in it, the city of LB is now responsible to clean up the mold and upon sale, I hope no one buys it that has small children. Why didnt the city just use the total $2.4 million for "gap" money and ALOT of people could of bought homes? The mayor has not responded to one email or council meeting request on this subject. Does he not care about citizens being able to buy homes? When the next wave of NSP money comes, (if it comes at all) ALL citizens should stand in line at city hall and get pre-qualified and do the steps to get the gap money next time and tell the council that they should NOT give away any of that money or buy homes for their own profit. I would think citizens should be a little upset at this, if you have wanted to buy a house. This grant would of covered down payment and closing costs. ----BREAK---POST2---- Were the citizens of LB given the option of voting on how the money was spent, or is this left up to the city to decide? I was pretty steamed when I read this! Mike, however, was not surprised at all and feels the city is probably patting itself on the back for having figured out how to do this! What Im not surprised about is that they did not use local Realtors. Im sure they didnt want the locals to know what they were doing till it was done. A local Realtor might have blown the whistle since they would have had clients that were eligible (and waiting) for this grant! To me, this is just shameful. If this information is correct, the money was, indeed, converted from grant money to money the city can now use as they see fit and the people get nothing. ------------------------------CUT----------------------- I will look into seeing where / why the error took place.
