2018 – Fire Department End Of the Year Awards

Los Banos Fire Fighters invited their family members and the Los Banos City Council to attend their December Monthly Business Meeting to honor the Volunteer and Career Fire Fighters of the year. Also recognized were a number of other Fire Fighters for their years of service.

Firefighter Brandon Hope was selected by his peers as the Volunteer Fire Fighter of the year. Brandon has been a member of the department since January 2017. He was recognized for his dedication to emergency responses within the City of Los Banos. Brandon is an excellent Volunteer for the Fire Department, extremely active and is currently working on the completion of his EMT Certification. He is planning on attending the Merced College Fire Fighter I Academy next spring.

Fire Captain Zach Sawyer was selected as the department’s Career Fire Fighter of the year. Zach began his career with the Los Banos Fire Department as a Volunteer Fire Fighter in July 2003 and was hired full time by the department in July 2006. Zach was recognized for his many years of dedicated service to the City of Los Banos and his commitment to the Fire Department.

Both Fire Fighters will be recognized for their dedication at the Merced County Fire Fighter of the Year banquet that is hosted by the American Legion in Merced this coming April.Pictured from Right:

Several members of the department were also recognized for their years of service to the Department and the City of Los Banos.

Fire Fighter Anthony Sequeira, 5 years; Fire Captain Zach Sawyer, 15 years; Fire Fighter Mike Minor, 15 years; Administrative Coordinator Mary Lou Gilardi, 20 years; Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief Darrall Gargano, 40 years.

Special recognition was also given to newly appointed Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief John Dutra for his excellence in execution of duties and contribution to the Los Banos Volunteer Fire Department. Fire Chief Mason Hurley presented Dutra with a Certificate of Award along with a new Chief’s helmet. Assistant Fire Chief Dutra joined the Department in July 2006 and has always been an asset to our organization, proudly serving with Honor, Integrity and Compassion.

The Los Banos Fire Department would like congratulate all award recipients. A big thank you to this year’s cooking committee for a fantastic meal, the Pacheco High School FFA for their assistance in serving and the entire department and families for such a fantastic year.
