Bakersfield Area CHP Reports Fatal Collision

On October 9, 2018 at approximately 1653 hours, the Bakersfield Communication Center (BCC) received a call of a solo vehicle traffic collision on southbound State Route 99 (SR-99) south of Woollomes Avenue. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Bakersfield Area Office responded to the scene and investigated the collision.
The initial investigation found that the driver of the1998 ford explorer was traveling southbound on SR-99 south of Woollomes Avenue in the #1 lane at approximately 70 mph. For unknown reasons, the driver allowed the Ford to turn to the right causing the Ford to cross the #2 and #3 lanes and onto the dirt/grass covered shoulder where the Ford collided with a tree. As a result, the driver and passenger sustained fatal injuries.
It is unknown at this time whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
