California Highway Patrol Los Banos StartSmart Youth Driving Classes

A driver safety class for teenage drivers and their patents will be offered by the California Highway Patrol Los Banos Area office. The “Start Smart” class is designed for newly licensed and prospective drivers age 15-19 years old and their parents or guardians. It will cover collision avoidance techniques, driver and patent responsibilities, elements that cause crashes (speeding, DUI, distracted driving, unsafe passenger behavior), the importance of safety restraints and the provisional license process. The program incorporates videos and classroom discussion, and provides an opportunity to ask questions of CHP officers.

The class is offered free of charge. Parents and guardians may sign up for the class by calling (209) 826-3811. Due to limited space, no siblings please.

Funding for the CHP’s Start Smart program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
