October 4, 2018, at approximately 1917 hours, Fresno Communication Center (FCC) received a call of a refrigerator and other debris within the traffic lanes of westbound SR-168 transition road to westbound SR-180. Several different locations were given and units began responding to clear the roadway. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) fixed winged aircraft confirmed the location and CHP ground units from the Fresno Area Office responded.
At approximately 1919 hours, a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling on westbound SR-168 transition road to westbound SR-180 and struck the refrigerator. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and became unresponsive. A citizen began CPR and was relieved by CHP officers who continued CPR until American Ambulance arrived and transported the rider to Community Regional Medical Center.
Follow up on the vehicle that was transporting the refrigerator led to a responsible party and that party has been contacted and provided all information.
At this point, the investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time whether drugs and/or alcohol were involved.
