Hanford Area CHP Reports Major Injury Collision

On October 10, 2018, at approximately 1105 hours, the Fresno Communication Center (FCC) received a call of a traffic collision on State Route 41 south of Elgin Avenue. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Hanford Area Office responded to the scene and investigated the collision.
During the course of the investigation it was determined Mr. Velasco was stopped in Freightliner eastbound on Elgin Ave. at SR-41. Mr. Velasco then made a right turn onto southbound SR-41 in the #2 lane and began accelerating. Mr. Guevara was traveling southbound on SR-41 in a 2012 Nissan in the #2 lane at approximately 65 mph approaching the rear of the Freightliner. Mr. Guevera then looked back to his wife and daughter who were both unrestrained in the back seat. Mr. Guervara failed to recognize Freightliner was directly in front of him and rear-ended the back of it. Due to the passenger(s) being unrestrained, the daughter was sent forward into the back of the right front passenger seat and the wife was ejected out the front windshield.
This traffic collision is still under investigation and it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor.
