In Loving Memory: Mary Helen Foster

Mary Helen Foster a long time resident of Dos Palos, California passed away on October 25, 2018 at New Bethany in Los Banos.
Mary Helen was born on December 19, 1932 in Plover, Wisconsin, the daughter of David and Ruth Field.
She received her nursing degree in Madison, Wisconsin. She started training in Johns Hopkins Hospital, and then she moved to work in the operating room in Baltimore.
While working at a doctor’s office, she met Victor Foster, and married him in Dallas, TX. She moved to Dos Palos on April, 1959 and started working at the Dos Palos Hospital on May, 1959.
Mary Helen worked at the school in Dos Palos from 1964 to 1970, then she went back to work at the Dos Palos Hospital where she had a big part in surgeries with Dr. Brill, Dr. Smith and Dr. Saaty. She helped in with the delivery of many Dos Palos residents and their children.
After returning to Dos Palos and working at the hospital, the hospital became a Skilled Nursing facility and she helped open it up as a director of nurses. She retired from the Skilled Nursing facility in 1997 but kept involved in the Hospital League where she was a member.
She was a lifetime member of Rainbow Chapter #87 and the Methodist Church where she helped out with her buddy Jackie Merril. She helped so much in the kitchen that there was a sign above the door with her name “Mary Helen’s Kitchen”. She enjoyed quilting and helping with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and always loved by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ruth Field.
Mary Helen is survived by her children: Larry (Susan) Foster and Jon Foster; one sister Edna Borgen, one brother John Field; two grandchildren: Clair Foster and Amanda Foster and many family and friends.
