Juvenile Gang Member Arrested with Handgun

On October 30, 2013 at approximately 4:48 p.m., Gang Detectives Eduardo Solis and Jake Bento were on patrol in the area of Idaho Avenue and West I Street. The Detectives observed a 15-year-old male walking in the area, who is a documented local gang member. The Detectives stopped and contacted the juvenile after receiving information that the juvenile had recently been in possession of a firearm.
When the Detectives questioned the suspect about the firearm he became very nervous and attempted to turn away from the Detectives. The juvenile was detained and a loaded handgun was discovered concealed in his waist band. The juvenile was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a concealed firearm, participation in a criminal street gang and minor in possession of ammunition. The juvenile has been booked into the Merced County Juvenile Hall Facility for the above mentioned charges.
“We’ve had many cases in Los Banos where firearms get in the wrong hands and are used to commit horrible crimes. I’m proud to report our staff was able to safely remove another gun from our streets before it was used to harm someone. Great work Detectives Solis and Bento.”
