LBPD Investigate Possible Burglary in Progress

On July 5, 2018 at approximately 12:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of I Street for a reported burglary in progress call.

An employee was reportedly in the kitchen of a local business preparing food when she heard the sounds of a saw above the business. The business is situated below a set of vacant apartments. The employee believed construction or repairs were being made to the apartments above until she saw a blade cutting through the ceiling. She yelled to stop and a person fell through the ceiling, and into the business. The employee ran out of the business and called 9-1-1.

Los Banos police officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the business. The police department’s drone was used to check the rooftops of surrounding buildings while K-9 Maverick searched the attic. The suspect fled prior to officers arriving at the business.

The suspect may have been stealing copper from the vacant apartment above the business. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Los Banos police department at 209-827-7070, extension 0.

The employee did a great job getting to safety and calling police immediately.
