and investigated the collision.
During the investigation, it was determined Ms. Veronica Deleon, was driving her 2014 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Mercedes Avenue, west of Shaffer Road, and stopped at the stop sign. Mr. Pedro Lopez, Jr., was driving his 1989 Toyota pickup truck southbound on Shaffer Road, north of Mercedes Avenue, at a stated speed of 50-55 miles per hour. The collision occurred when Ms. Deleon drove her vehicle into the southbound lane of Shaffer Road from Mercedes Avenue, in an attempt to turn southbound on Shaffer. Mr. Lopez saw Ms. Deleon pull out directly into the right front of his Toyota but he was unable to avoid the Toyota Corolla due to the close proximity. Ms. Deleon’s Toyota Corolla collided into the right front of Mr. Lopez’ Toyota pickup truck and caused it to overturn. The right front passenger in the Toyota pickup was ejected and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
Traffic traveling on Shaffer Road does not have a stop sign at the intersection with Mercedes Avenue, while Mercedes Avenue is controlled by a stop sign.
