On February 6, 2019, the Los Banos Police Department hosted a multi-agency a proactive enforcement operation between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. The participating agencies included; Los Banos Police Department, State Parole, Merced County Probation, and the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU).
During the operation, officers searched 24 homes of persons on parole and probation and made 9 arrests, including 7 arrests for felony crimes. A total of 4 firearms were taken off the streets during the operation.
Los Banos Police Detective Sean Bayard led a team of officers assigned to parole and probation compliance checks. Detective Bayard’s team located two firearms while conducting compliance check in the 1400 block of Quail Street. Joshua Corona, 22 of Los Banos was arrested at the home and charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of concentrated cannabis, child endangerment, and probation violations.
Officer Efren Fernandez of the Los Banos Police Department made a vehicle stop in the area of Santa Barbara Street and Mercey Springs Road. Manuel Aurelio Pineda Solis, 20 of Los Banos was arrested and charged with possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a prohibited large capacity magazine, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of marijuana for sales, and possession of concentrated cannabis.
Officer Steven Arellano made a vehicle stop after Jimmy Soto-Avena, 34, Gilroy failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver failed to yield to the officer’s emergency lights, but eventually stopped in the area of 44 West I Street. Soto-Avena was arrested and found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. Soto-Avena was charged with evading a peace officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and other felony weapons related charges.
Merced Police GVSU made a vehicle stop and arrested Elpido Pacheco, 34 of Sacramento on an outstanding felony warrant out of Sacramento, California.
Los Banos Police Detective Robbie Wiens let a team of officers assigned to parole and probation compliance checks. Fernando Sigala, 24 of Los Banos was arrested for a parole violation and booked into the Los Banos Police Department jail.
Los Banos Police Officer Aaron Pinon arrested Bruce Lester, 61 of Los Banos on an outstanding want for felony domestic violence and violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Officer Pinon also arrested Alexander Bueno, 32 of Los Banos for violation of his post-release community supervision conditions; violating terms and conditions of release.
Officer Aaron Pinon and Officer Michael Neal arrested at least two other men for various misdemeanor bench warrants.
