The Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is extending a warm invitation on the occasion of the 86th Anniversary of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Celebration. The Celebration Mass, featuring classic Italian hymns, will be on Sunday July 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Feast Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is July 16 when she appeared to Saint Simon Stock on July 16, 1251 after he returned to his native England. He had a strong desire to join the Carmelite hermits who lived on Mt. Carmel, but they were forced to migrate to Europe due to Christian persecutions. Our Lady of Mount Carmel gave St. Simon the gift of the Brown Scapular, a sign of salvation, a safeguard in danger and a pledge of Mary’s special protection.
A traditional luncheon menu of Italian stew, beans, rice, salad, French rolls and biscottis will immediately follow at the D.E.S. Hall. A raffle and an auction will include traditional handcrafts, desserts and donated items from members, merchants and the community. Also, the Chaplet honoring Our Lady will have candles to display in memory of loved ones, special intentions or as a sign of devotion. Handmade scapulars by the Sisters of Carmel (100% wool) will be available.
Culminating the celebration will be the Rosary and the Benediction at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church. New members will be invested with the Brown Scapular. For more information on membership or raffle donations, contact Tracey at 826-0903 or Joanne at 826-4610.
